Marble Cleaning: Top Tips To Ensure You A Great Floor

The polished smooth surface of a marble floor looks elegant. But that was when you installed the stone. Now with each passing day, you can feel that the stone is losing its smoothness and luster. You should always remember that marble flooring is a kind of investment and with minimum maintenance and simple care; you can make it look as good as new. If you have used marble as a countertop or table top, you should use coasters for glasses especially those which contain citrus fruits and alcohol. They can contain acidic elements which can be fatal for marble.

You should never place a hot item like a pan with warm food directly on the marble surface. You should always use placemats under the bowl or dishes. If the stone comes in direct contact with the warm bowl, the surface can be damaged. While placing china, silver or ceramics which have the tendency to create scratches or dents, you should always place the placemats first. Sand, grit or dirt can cause permanent damage to stones. One should take help of a non-treated dust mop in order to keep the floor surface clean. You can place rugs or mats near the door so that it keeps away the dirt.

One should never use a solution which contains vinegar, acidic elements or lemon. Mild detergent solutions should be used to rinse the surface. Then a clean cloth should be used to dry the floor. For bathrooms, the amount of soap scum can be reduced with the help of a squeegee. You can sue a non-acidic remover for soap scum. Even a solution of water and ammonia can be helpful but the ration of ammonia should be half cup along with gallons of waters. For vanity top surfaces, the dealer will recommend a marble wax or non-yellowing paste wax. This will reduce the waters spots.

If you have installed marble in areas where there are chances of food penetration, one should use a penetrating sealer. The sealer should be non-toxic. Outdoor and pool areas are most difficult to maintain. In these areas, mild bleach can be used to remove the moss or the algae. You should use the dust mops and not any other cleaner which can cause scratches on the surface. After washing the floor, you should dry the surface with a clean cloth. You should never use bathroom cleaners which contain harsh chemicals, or grout cleaners. Abrasive cleaners like soft cleansers and dry cleansers should be avoided. Bleaching substance and ammonia should never be mixed together. This produces a lethal gas which is deadly for the marble surface.

The more you keep the floor, the more it will retain its smooth texture. One can sue trivets, coasters and placemats on the marble surface. Non-slip mats or rugs can also help to keep away the dirt from the floor. If there are blots of liquid on the floor, it should be cleaned immediately. Even water botches can look ugly if left unmapped for a long while.
