Seven Tips For Granite Cleaning

Granite has high demand as a countertop material among contractors and home owners. The natural beauty of this stone stays unmatched if proper care is taken. Granite is durable and is stain resistant. It can stand up to acid and many other elements that are harsh. This means with less care, you can simply have the granite look gorgeous. In fact, granite is quite easy to clean and maintain.

However, there are seven things that should be considered while taking care of the granite countertops in your kitchen. Read the seven tips as we give them below.

One of the major problems that can be faced with granite countertop is the presence of sand or grit. Any object placed on countertop may have some sand or grit stuck to bottom. An ice-tea glass from patio table or cooler from garage may contain grit beneath. This grit can cause abrasion to the granite. So, better be careful of such circumstances.

Secondly, don’t ever think of sliding something on the granite countertop. You may slide the thing very innocently but that will result in formation of a scratch along with that horrible scratch sound. After the scratch will be formed, you will simply have nothing to do.

Next, do you have any idea about what a granite slab with scratch means? It means some material is removed. There are many product manufacturers who repair blemishes and scratches from granite. But how can any product put the stone back to its place as this seems to be an impossible task. The manufacturers can hide it at the most if it is not so badly scratched. So, you must always be careful while using granite countertops. Prevent scratches before they take place.

Another important point that should be kept in mind is that you need to be careful while cleaning the granite countertop. Don’t ever use any abrasive like Ajax or Comet. Never clean the countertop with ammonia based cleaners. Using cleaners that are ammonia based over time will simply dull the amazing luster and shine of the granite. Sometimes you may not be too sure of the solution---in such cases, don’t use them.

The other thing that needs to be considered is the use of warm soapy water while cleaning granite countertops. However, use this solution until and unless you get a good granite cleanser.

The last and the least important tip for maintenance of granite is that it needs to be sealed every year because this stone is porous. So, sealing it annually is essential. Sealing the stone will help it develop resistance from stain and will allow it to shine. Sealants can be put by anyone. Applying sealants does not require special skills. However, if you feel bit shaky about applying sealants, then get in contact with a local shop to work it out for you.

Granite is the best countertop material available in market. Its luster draws attention of everybody. But if you fail to take proper care of it, the granite slab will slowly but surely lose the luster.
