DIY Guidelines For Successful Marble Installation

If you are planning to make a dream home, marble is the absolute choice for you. It is beautiful and it can give your house a sheer touch of elegance. No other decorative can give your house the value, the tradition and the style that marble can. To add another feather to the crown of this amazing stone, marble is also very easy to install as well. So, you can do it for yourself and the result – you can save a lot of money by avoiding the professionals.

However, to make that happen, you need to take certain steps. The following few lines will discuss them one by one.

The first thing that you have to do is to assume that you are an expert and to ensure that you are one, you have to do a lot of study on the subject. Ideally, your study should include the details of marble, its varieties, and every single thing that is associated with this natural stone. There are plenty of resources that you can use for this purpose. However, the internet seems to be the best since it is fast, affordable and convenient.

After that, you have to make sure that the floor where you are going to install the marble is suitable for that purpose. Marble is best placed at a floor that is level, dry and clean. Otherwise, there are chances of the marbles getting cracks. Also, you should see to it that the floor has the strength to hold the marbles. For, they are quite heavy.

Then, it is time to watch out for the baseboards. Sometimes, your baseboards may look very dull in comparison to the marbles. In that case, you should change them. At least, you have to remove them before you start the installation process.

Now it is time to do some planning. Basically this will act as a preview to find out the whether the number of marbles is enough or not. Even if you have enough of them, you should get some extra pieces. For, you can never rule out any chance of breaking some of them.

As you go into the process of installation, you should start from the center. If you do that, you can be sure that you are not stepping over the marbles while laying others. A piece of paper can make the task easier. All you have to do to make a blueprint of the installation and start working according to the plan.

Finally, you should pay attention to the thinset. Naturally, they should match with the color of the tiles. Since marble has a unique level of transparency, its color can be distorted in case the color of the thinset is different. Again, cold water should be used to mix the thinset so that you have enough time to fix the marbles. For the same reason, the thinset should be spread in a limited area at a time.

Spacers are really helpful to keep a proportionate distance between the tiles. So you should use them. Finally, you should grout the tiles. Here again the colors should correspond to each other. You should read the instruction carefully as well. Don’t forget to seal the grout after the work is complete.
