Industrial Use Of Marble

Nature has given men all what is needed for survival. With the help of science, men have applied several processes on the gifts of nature. These processes were applied to modify them and make them fit for multiple purposes. There are several natural products, which can be put to multiple uses.

One of them is the metamorphic rock marble. It has a cold appearance and is widely used to make pieces of sculptures. Marble is also known for the construction of buildings. But use of marble is not restricted to buildings and sculptures only. This natural rock plays a significant role in the industry.

Marble is used in the industries for a wide variety of reasons. Light colored or the colorless marble blocks have been one of the purest sources of calcium carbonate. For this reason, marble is used in different industries. Calcium carbonate powder or finely ground marble is one of the most important components of paper. It is used widely in the paper industries. For the high brightness of marble, ground calcium carbonate has been used to put coating pigment on paper. It is also used as paper filler as it helps in strengthening the sheet and give it high brightness.

Apart from making paper, calcium carbonate is used in several industries, which manufacture consumer products. It is needed to make paints and plastics. Calcium carbonate is also an important component of toothpaste. In pills it acts as inert filler and for this it is used in toothpaste and additives. In plastics, the ground calcium carbonate adds stiffness and gives strength. The thermal conductivity and dimensional stability of plastics can be achieved by using ground calcium carbonate.

Paints manufacturing industries uses ground calcium carbonate as it is an excellent extender and filler. It is weather resistant and adds high brightness. In the last decade, a significant growth was seen in the demand of ground calcium carbonate for coating pigment of paper. Calcium carbonate can be reduced to calcium oxide under high heat. This form is also called lime. It can be used for several purposes. Cement industries use it widely as it forms basic component of different types of cement.

Finely ground calcium carbonate is needed for all these manufacturing jobs. You might get astonished to know that worldwide, three quarters ground calcium carbonate is obtained from marble. Chalk and limestone are the other sources to make ground calcium carbonate. These days, marble is quarried in different countries of the world. This has increased the availability of marble in the market.

However despite its use as calcium carbonate the best use of marble is as a natural stone that can be used to enhance the ambience of ones house. It is one of the most coveted materials for home décor. Marble is a stone that is high in demand these days. It is a natural stone and has some special characteristics of its own. The demand of marble has increased with time for its unique characteristics. Now, several countries quarries large amount of marble every year. This has lowered the price of marble than the earlier periods. Earlier it was used by aristocrats for the decoration of houses. But these days, it is used in industries and forms an important component for several products.
