The installation of natural stone for the interiors and the exteriors of the house is a sound investment. You have to take proper care without which the stone will lose its texture and luster. Maintenance is one of the key factors for the stone’s lasting beauty and so make sure you do proper maintenance. Before you choose the materials for cleaning marble, you must consult the dealer who can tell you about the best products in the market. The natural stones differ in abrasive hardness, acid resistance, compressive strength and water absorption. It is the difference in these inherent qualities which make a slab of stone different from the other.
In order to retain the polish of the surface, you should keep away the abrasive particles which can diminish the texture. After the stone is installed, a clean-up with a cement mortar is absolutely needed. The wall or the floor can be cured within 4 to 6 weeks. However when it is cured, it is better not to use any wax or greasy soap which might close the pores. This might restrict the evaporation of moisture. The marble should not be sealed prior to curing, or else it might result in spots and rims on the marble.
If it is granite, then you can use clean it with potable water and a detergent soap or cleaner with neutral PH7. You should clean the granite in overlapping sweeps. The granite should be rinsed carefully with water, so that there are no remnants of soap or the cleaner. After the stone is rinsed with water, it should be cleaned with a dry soft cloth. After the granite is dry, the sealer should be applied. All sealers are designed to act as stain-resistant. Things which can cause stains include salad dressings, mayonnaise, peanut butter, cosmetics, ink, oil, mustards and adhesives.
After the stain is good as they cleaned, the surface of the marble should be washed with a solution of clean water and mildly alkaline cleaners. The soapless cleaners are good as they minimize the level of filming and streaking. You can apply warm water on the surface. The cleaning solution is to be applied and then the floor should be cleaned in overlapping small sweeps. The whole surface is to be cleaned and all traces of the cleaner and soap should be removed. After the surface is rinsed with water, a cotton flannel or soft cloth is to be used for drying the surface.
Certain beverages and food items like vinegar, mustard, fruit juices, carbonated beverages, salad dressings, ink, coffee, peanut butter or butter can cause stains which might cause permanent damage on the surface of the stone. If you have spilled tea, the stains should be wiped with a cloth immediately. And the area should be washed. You can use a mild detergent for cleaning the area, but in no way, you should allow the place to be stained. Once the area is stained, it will become increasingly difficult to remove the stains.
